How much does happiness cost?
What is happiness for a businessman and how to turn it into a goal and achieve success.
Why people decide to do business? There are lots of reasons and one of the most important and significant is the wish to raise the standard of living.
The idea of building a business is quite an obtrusive thing which totally occupies a beginning entrepreneur. The moment it happens a feverish and exhaustive work begins from morning till night, without any end which finishes after a little while along with disappearing energy and wish to do business any more as well.
Most often the reason of such a failure is while starting a business entrepreneur didn’t set any goal and just did business and followed his/her nose solving problems appearing on the way.
Goal setting allows not just to solve urgent problems but to solve them in a manner that it would be possible to follow a certain direction which was elaborated earlier. To follow the direction which leads to success of your business.
What can businessman take as a goal? Which priority must you guide in a big amount of affairs which are typical of any business?
No doubt, the main priority is the thing why the business was undertaken – the standard of living which allows a businessman to consider him to be happy and successful. Most interesting is it can be clearly calculated using figures and dates. You have only to imagine yourself a man who is happy and enjoys life.
Set your long term goal
Told yourself “I want”:
- To have my own three floor house
- To have two cars
- To be independent from hired work
- To always travel around the world
- To be financially secured (heritage, insurance)
- To help relatives and other people
Not bad, isn’t it? Set the list according priorities:
- To be independent from work
- To provide financial security
- To have my own house and cars
- To travel around the world
- To help other people
Now let’s count how much money do you need (for success) to make your dreams come true.
Most interesting that you don’t need too much:
- independence from work – $3000 per month
- financial security – $1000 per month
- house and cars – $200,000 for the first time and $2000 per month for the maintenance
- the possibility of traveling – $2000 per month
$200,000 for the first time and then $8000 per month.
Plus helping people (10% of total income) – $800 per month.
Choose the time which you need for the fulfillment of your wishes. Let it be 5 years.
So, during 5 years you must have $200,000 and provide $108,000 of annual income.
That’s the long term goal of the business.
Then determine a short term goal
The advantage of the long term goal is that it constantly makes move further and doesn’t allow relaxing after achieving interim results. Nevertheless you mustn’t fix yourself only on perspective plans as they are too far away to seem to be the truth currently. You can loose your heart because of unbelief in your own forces.
To encourage yourself, to concentrate totally on fulfilling less significant and by this reason more real task set a short term goal. You must set it so that result of achieving it should lead to achieving of a bigger, long term goal.
Take as a goal most important and significant point of your wishes’ list.
What is of high priority for you now? Maybe, it’s independence from work?
To stop visiting your place of work you must provide appropriate level of cashflow from your business. Let it be $40,000 per year (about $3500 per month).
The date of achieving a goal must be real, achievable and easy to observe to keep it every day in your head, to strive for it, to know that is near and understand that you mustn’t waste your time on trifles.
A year is too far away, three months is to near (paper work itself can take a month). Six months is the most appropriate term.
A short term goal is to achieve annual income of $40,000 (after deduction of taxes and charges).
Track your goals closely
So, long term and short term goals are set. Now you can start achieving them!
Print your goals on the paper and hang it where you can see it to look at them every morning after awake and to know that you mustn’t relax, that today you must do one more step and this step will no doubt lead to the best result: making all cherished wishes come true!
Celebrate your victory!
Having achieved your long term goal write without any doubts on your business the word “Successful!”
